Internal conviction around your vision comes first
Entrepreneur, Startup CEO Coach, Team & Culture Expert
You attract talented people by having a meaningful purpose.
Can you look someone in the eye and boldly declare your desired future state?
Lesson: Team & Culture with Dave Kashen
Step: #7 Convicted Recruiting: Internal conviction around your vision comes first
You attract talented people by having meaningful purpose is becoming, kind of, motherhood and apple pie. People, I think, understand that intellectually.
The challenge of actually doing it is to be able to look someone in the eye and boldly declare the future state that you want to achieve through your start-up, becoming a reality. “We are going to impact the lives of one million people in this way. We're going to make them healthier. We're going to a million people healthier, live healthier every day. We're going to alleviate this pain for 10 million people.”
As a leader, I think, this is one of the greatest opportunities for leadership and leadership development is building, first, the internal conviction around your vision, and not vision sort of cliché, but your actual imagined future state that you want. Choosing, basically, to believe so strongly in that happening that you can then go and credibly look other people in the eyes and tell them, “This is going to happen.” That's the moment where it switches for people. They can then step into this with their own confidence that it's going to happen.
